Walking meditation is a practice that cultivates mindfulness of present experience as we take mindful steps along our path. It combines mindful awareness of physical sensations with a parallel recognition of existential reality. While walking, we intentionally bring the attention to the body, allowing the feet to move and settle into the sensations of the ground beneath us. In this manner, we merge awareness of body and mind while simultaneously connecting to the fundamental truth of our existence – that all of life is constantly in motion. In this practice, we can also extend our awareness to the environment around us, becoming aware of sights, sounds and smells as we move, engaging with the world around us in an open, non-judgmental way.
